We have been chatting about mushrooms as a starting point for a print for a long time! Nancy and Jules love a floral and botanical - but this motif feels a little more unusual and characterful. Nancy rose to the challenge of creating a print using this fairy tale motif in a manner that felt sophisticated and charming. We looked at a lot of print styles as a starting point and then finally both felt very happy with a ‘Toile du Jouy’ as our basis for a rhythmic design that would feel timeless and where we could playfully engage with its repeated patterns rural landscapes, mythological characters, fauna and flora. Naturally we decided to evolve the monochrome element and be more playful in our colour palette. The final print Spicewood plays with scale across a range of elements: from foxgloves, to wildflowers and lady birds around our central theme – the mushroom.
